Conceptual project for the Donald Gordon Theatre, Millennium Centre, Cardiff

A bizarre opera by Walter Braunfels about a pair of disgruntled men who travel to the world of the birds to encourage and help them take on the gods. With roots in Greek mythology my director, Polly Graham, and I created the strange and colourful world of birds, men and gods.

the make
I chose to make an element of one costume from the designs for this conceptual project. I decided to make the Hoopoe character - the leader of The Birds with a backstory rooted on Greek Mythology. The design & final make took the shape of a grotesque featherless man-bird.
